Learning a New Language ???

Mina san konnichiwa
So I have been wanting to write my first blog post about this journey I have begun for a while now.
To tell you the truth, I was not so keen on learning a new language from the first day I started language classes in school.
When I went to school in Zimbabwe, we had Shona class and that is the language we learnt. I don't think I was very good, but I remember Shiri means Bird !!!
As for England, European languages were taught and this was the most common spoken languages. In high school we were taught German and French and once it came to GCSE's we had to pick between the 2 and Spanish was the option too. I picked French. I can tell you now, I was really not so good and therefore didn't do too good. But that was the past.
I've come to realise that the reason being is because I didn't have much of an option and I felt too restricted especially since I had to follow a certain way of learning.
Now I have come to find a language which I hope to develop more and that is Japanese. I am so happy to learn it and also become friends with such wonderful Japanese friends. You know who you are.
'Language is the archives of history.' (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
For those of you wondering how I came to pick Japanese I will cut the story short.
It began with Anime !!! (I guess this is one of the most common reasons). After having heard the language I explored the culture more and that is what made me fall in love with Japan as a whole. I am amazed with the amount of resources that I have where I can learn the language to a certain extent on my own. This covers from books, to apps to learning via YouTube Videos.(more to come in future posts).
My goal is to be able to spend 6 months in Japan being able to communicate at least most of my day in Japanese. Hopefully I can take the JPLT test too soon.
After realising that I do quite enjoy learning a new language, it has opened me up to learning other languages as well as brushing up on my French that I wasn't too keen on before. My grandpa speaks over 4 languages and that is what I would like to be able to do. It's always good to aspire to learn something new by being inspired by someone you look up to.
I can't wait to update you more on my Journey. This is also contributing to my journey about discovering my purpose and more about culture as it is one of my top favourite interests.
If something interests you, don't let it float, explore it. You never know where that interest may take you.
So far I have Japanese, Korean, Xhosa, Shona and French on my list of learning. Wish me Luck !!!
